Ubisoft Offers Update on Watch Dogs 2 Multiplayer Fix Ubisoft has offered an update on Watch Dogs 2 "seamless multiplayer" feature, which remains disabled two days after its launch. According to Ubisoft, the Watch Dogs 2 development team hopes to turn the multiplayer back on "as soon as this weekend," if their solution works. In a statement to IGN, a Ubisoft spokesperson said that ensuring the fix "causes no regression to the core single-player experience" is a priority, alongside smoothly integrating the new co-op features. "To our current players, we sincerely appreciate the support and patience during this process," Ubisoft stated. Watch Dogs 2's "seamless multiplayer" feature — which should allow randomly synchronized players to meet up in-game, hack each other in a hide-and-seek-style mode, or join the police to...

Final Fantasy XV Review Final Fantasy XV opens, quite fittingly, with a splash screen that reads: “A Final Fantasy for fans and first-timers.” Having played every numbered entry since the first, I can see both reverence for the old and a courtship of the new in this latest chapter. I’d like to say it’s an elegant fusion of the two, but in reality it’s more of a duality - a conflict that reaches into nearly every aspect of Final Fantasy XV. In the end, its beauty, charm, and commitment to the bond between its four protagonists keep it glued together, even when some of its design and story elements threaten to pull it apart. Prince Noctis and fellow travelers Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto aren’t a loosely assembled band of strangers...

Former Wii U exclusive Lego City Undercover coming to PC In 2013, after a decade of putting their own spin on well-known comics and movie series, Lego launched Lego City: Undercover—a Wii U exclusive that told a story within its own block-based universe.  Set in a similarly sprawling open world, Undercover featured a host of familiar toys from Lego's real life City series which our sister site GamesRadar rated four out of five stars. Warner Bros. Games has now revealed it's coming to PC next year.  "The consistent delivery of these references complement the story's comedic dialogue and sight gags," says Miguel Concepcion in his 2013 review. "You can tell the game's writers are fans of the Police Squad! TV show and movie series. None of the jokes feel forced or drawn out, which helps keep...

Pacific Nation of Kiribati Establishes Large Shark Sanctuary The island nation of Kiribati has established a large shark sanctuary that will help ensure the creatures are protected across much of the central Pacific. Vice President Kourabi Nenem said at the sanctuary's launch on Friday that the nation was committed to protecting sharks from exploitation and overfishing. Kiribati has banned commercial shark fishing in the sanctuary, which is about the size of India. Palau established the first shark sanctuary in the region in 2009, and has been followed by the Marshall Islands, French Polynesia and other nations. The Pew Charitable Trusts estimates that 100 million sharks are killed each year by commercial fisheries. It says sharks are vulnerable to overfishing because they're slow to mature and reproduce. Sharks are prized by some for their fins, which are used...

Microsoft pushes R, SQL Server integration Microsoft made another R-in-the-enterprise push today, announcing Microsoft R Server 9.0 with a goal of helping companies "operationalize" data science. Users will be able to create models within R, deploy results to SQL Server and turn them into Web services, several Microsoft officials said during a demo this morning. The goal is to make it easier to incorporate data-analysis results in applications that do things like predict airline delays or improve e-mail marketing campaigns. "R models do not have to be translated from R to the language of the Line of Business application," according to Microsoft. A publishServices function to generate a Web service will be a feature across Microsoft R, not just the paid products, a Microsoft spokesman said via chat. ...

Ducklings 'maintain two separate memory banks of visual information' Credit: CC0 Public Domain Scientists from the University of Oxford have shown that newly hatched ducklings that are shown a substitute mother object with only one eye do not recognise it when they have only the other eye available. Ducklings and other fowl normally learn to follow their mother within a few minutes of seeing her, through a process called imprinting. This process can allow a duckling to learn to identify any moving object presented to it during its 'sensitive' period - typically within the first week or so after hatching. In this new study, published in the journal Animal Behaviour, ducklings were initially presented with either a red or a blue duck decoy, which moved in a circular path, while wearing an eyepatch over one eye. The...

Supergirl: "Changing" Review Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below. There was a lot to be excited about in tonight’s installment of Supergirl - the debut of Parasite, Alex’s big coming out, Mon-El’s first go being a hero, Kara getting drunk, etc. But you’ll notice I didn’t mention anything about James Olsen’s debut as Guardian. James sure did his best to drag down what was otherwise a very enjoyable new episode. It was a treat seeing a major Superman foe like Parasite make his Arrow-verse debut this week (played by Lost’s William Mapother) . That does make you wonder what Superman has actually been doing for the past decade if not battling villains like Metallo or Parasite, but whatever. Even better was the fact that the writers introduced Parasite via...
