1.6-liter ‘camless’ engine delivers 230 hp in Qoros 3 The “camless” engine developed by Koenigsegg sister company FreeValve edged closer to production on Friday with Qoros’ unveiling of a working prototype at the 2016 Guangzhou auto show. The prototype is a followup to the concept Qoros unveiled earlier in the year. Instead of a camshaft, the camless engine, which Qoros has labeled Qamfree, relies on pneumatic valve actuators to open an engine’s valves, which are then closed by air pressure or springs. This results in much more precise and completely customizable control over valve duration and lift, on both the intake and exhaust sides.
