Learning, motivation, and reward are complicated neurological entities. Recent research has made headway, but many questions remain. Paradoxically, according to the latest study, forgetting expectations of a reward could, in fact, help us to learn better in certain situations.How we are motivated to find rewards seems dependent on forgetfulness, to a certain extent. Although the mechanisms by which learning, reward, and motivation, occur are not well understood, the neurotransmitter dopamine is known to be heavily involved. The current study adds to our knowledge of how dopamine translates to reward and how this information is processed in the brain; it attempts to answer some pressing questions. Novartis' drug tops chemotherapy in untreated lung cancer patients Novartis AG said its cancer drug, Zykadia, was twice as effective as chemotherapy in slowing the progression of a rare form of lung cancer in a late-stage study. Patients with anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive (ALK+)advanced non-small cell lung cancer treated with Zykadia had a median progression-free survival of 16.6 months, compared to 8.1 months for those on chemotherapy.Overall survival data is still immature, but a positive trend in favor of Zykadia was observed, the Swiss drugmaker said on Tuesday. 7-Eleven clamped by Fair Work Ombudsman in new 'landmark' deed Scandal-plagued convenience store giant 7-Eleven has signed a "landmark agreement" with the workplace regulator to stamp out wage fraud across its network of stores. The new agreement, known formally as a "Proactive Compliance Deed" was finalised this week after months of negotiation. The big brother-like measures in the agreement include biometric shift scanning systems, including facial recognition, the installation of 7-Eleven owned CCTV and a central payroll system to allow head office to monitor employee hours and wages. The agreement, which will set a new standard for the $170 billion franchise industry, includes admissions by 7-Eleven that a culture of underpayment and false records had become "normalised" in its network and that it must do more to detect and fix the issue.
